On hosting the company's big evenings
Somebody has to host the evening everyone remembers. Usually it is an HR or admin colleague with a full workload and a short runway. This journal gathers the thinking that tends to make those evenings go well, written for hosts rather than guests.
In this journal
- A gala in a heritage hall
- Dinner and dance among the gardens
- A festive evening by the river
- Marking a company anniversary
- A retreat by the sea
A host's first job
Before venues, menus or themes, write one sentence on what the evening is for. Thanking staff, honouring a milestone and welcoming new colleagues each call for a different tone, and that sentence will settle many later arguments.
When food is brought into a venue or office, the Singapore Food Agency publishes useful food safety guidance.
